REAL 3D is finally here

These days most Hollywood blockbuster movies are available in both 2D and 3D. Mentioning the word ‘3D’, first thing that comes into our mind is those uncomfortable polarized glasses we must wear to experience the visual effect. I can still recall vividly my first 3D experience. It was in 1983 when I watched the movie JAWS 3-D. By the time the show ended, I felt really sick and was about to throw up (luckily I didn’t), BUT the movie was good.

Fujifilm launched the REAL 3D technology during Photokina last year. It was groundbreaking news! (the announcement was featured on Channel NewsAsia) On July 22 this year, Fujifilm launched the “FinePix Real 3D System”. It claimed to be the world’s first 3D digital imaging system which let us enjoy three dimensional images without the need to wear special 3D glasses. When I read this, the first word that comes out of my mouth is “wow”. Finally, we  don’t have to wear those hideous polarized glasses to enjoy 3D effect anymore. So I waited and waited, hoping to see this new 3D technology available soon.

Today, my wait is finally over. The Fujifilm REAL 3D System is available in Singapore.  I tried out the world’s first consumer-grade 3D camera  – the FinePix REAL 3D W1, at the Fujifilm Roadshow at Liang Court this morning.

The Fujifilm REAL 3D System has 3 components – camera, viewer and printer. Currently, we can only view 2D images on conventional LCD monitors (those used in our computers). The FinePix W1 is 2D and 3D selectable. In other words, if you are not ready for 3D, you can still shoot 2D.

The price tag for FinePix W1 is SGD$899 (inclusive GST) and is available at most electronics and photographic stores.
