F.U.N. Outing at Bright Hill

[written and compiled by KopiOkaya]

This series of images was taken during our “Vesak Day F.U.N. Outing: “Candle Light Offering & Aspiration” on 22nd May 2010.

The objective of this F.U.N. outing was to capture Buddhist monks and devotees engaging in a pre-Vesak Day religious candlelight offering ceremony at the Hall of Great Compassion at Kong Meng San Phor Kark See Monastery, also known as Bright Hill Temple.

There are several challenges facing our members during this shoot. Firstly, non-official photographers were not allowed to go near the main hall or the devotees. Secondly, the perimeter of the hall was cordoned-off, thus members had no choice but to shoot from the side road which was about thirty meters away from the hall. Finally, the lighting was very dim. Without a fast lens, it was impossible not to shoot at higher ISO settings.

Nonetheless, our members didn’t give up.  Armed with Fujifilm FinePix cameras,  coupled with quick thinking and steady hands, they were able to capture some of the most extraordinary moments.
